We were going on a 10 day Taipei and 10 day Tokyo trip in the month of December. Taiwan was to visit our Poly friend, and Tokyo was for the Fan Fest. Though we werent able to get tickets for it, still we could go to Eorzea Cafe..
Boots i ordered from ASOS, by Vagabond. extremely comfy.
Midnight Flight!
We were using Scoot for all the flights. I hadnt realised it was so cheap to travel by budget airline. However, you dont get check in baggage, food on board or much leg space.
We touched down at Taoyuan Airport around 5am, and our check in was only like 3pm, so we hung around at the airport, using the free wifi and charging stations. And buying convenience store food to eat and taking turns to nap.
When it was near check in, we hopped onto a city bus to Taipei east station and had our first meal, which was japanese food. lol. Cant help it, we dont really like to dine at very "ching chong" places, they have a lot of chinese words that i cant read, and weird animal parts for food.
Didnt help that it was rainy that day too, making it super cold. My luggage bag was starting to chafe my hands. We bought an easycard and took the MRT to Ximen, which is where we would be staying. It was maybe a 10 min walk from Ximen, but still accessible. Along the way there were still food shops and convenience stores. Our hotel was called Dream House Hotel, which i booked from Agoda. I saw it was pretty clean and affordable so i chose it.
The lady who owns the place is really nice, once we got to our rooms, which is much bigger than a room in Japan for the same price, we immediately took our laptop out to test the wifi connection.
We were still raiding and playing FFXIV on our holiday! #gamingaddiction #raiderlife
Cant say i like the floors. Its not carpet but some weird smooth tatami mat texture. Hm. At least the wall was cute. :)
Bathroom was bigger than i expected. But no partitioning so the whole floor gets all wet when you shower.
The street outside was quite old and tattered. We almost couldnt find the hotel cus there was no signs. A man opposite the street directed us, he could tell we were tourists.
We just headed to Ximending to get food back and just chill for the rest of the night. A Beautiful Mind was on. Oh yea, the hotel has free cable tv, so we were basically watching HBO, Cartoon network, Star movies everyday. YAY! If it was Japan, you'd have to pay for it.
Taiwan isnt as cold as Japan is at this time, but it is very very windy all the time. Thats why it was still freezing.
The doggy cafe was right here, the dogs are so huge!
This is ZH's favourite store called Hot Star. Everything is fried here. The popular item is the Large fried chicken. But here they have bones with it, unlike in Singapore where its boneless. But for only $2, cant really complain. Everything on this menu is around SGD2.
The square where some performances are held often. If you want to be even lazier, you can try booking the Rainbow Hotel here. I couldnt as it was full.
Sweet Potato fries! Which ZH fell in love with and bought the next visit.
We ordered this to go, sadly i didnt get to dd the chilli and vinegar to it. ZH didnt like it, maybe because of the pig intestines in it. It did taste quite weird.
Whats not to love about taiwan's convenience stores? It can essentially be my supermarket.
Must have bubble tea in Taiwan. I bought it from a random tea store called Chachago in XMD. Its the taro milk tea, has real taro! :O Huge cup for SGD2. I took 3 days to finish it...
Our haul from Family mart. Cant live without it. Got taiwan beers at really cheap, papaya milk, beeeef jerky is a must in taiwan ; it is super yummy, as well as giant yakult, and the instant noodles with real beef inside. The one at the top is the more popular brand. Also, see that Suntory at the front? Its ice lemon tea flavoured, was awesome :O!
